Carol & Craig's Wedding - Corby and Kettering

Carol and Craig live in the same village as us so I jumped at the chance of being able to photograph their big day. The ceremony was being held at the Church of Scotland in Corby with the reception at a new venue for me, the Scouts Centre at Kettering.
At 11 am we arrived on-mass to the The Strand salon in Corby. The Bride, four Bridesmaids and the Mother-of-the-Bride (oh, and not forgetting baby Lauren) came prepared with bottles of fizzy to help them through the preparations. As you can imagine they coped admirably with a constant stream of refreshment on-hand, well, in one particular persons hand but we won’t go into that (Mums the word Becks !!). As a wedding photographer you get to the stage when you think you have seen it all, but this morning was going to surprise me. The method that the stylist used to put-up Carol’s hair was amazing. A piece of ribbon was used, tied to the hair at one side, and then sewn through the curls to the opposite side. Then like magic the ribbon was pulled and the hair rose into position. The ribbon was then tied securely to the opposite side holding the style in place - very impressive.
Unlike the female group, it was clear that not a drop of alcohol had passed Craig lips when we met at the Church (you can pay me later Craig). A few quick poses later and we eagerly awaited the arrival of the bride. Carol promptly arrived in the white stretch limousine and 40 minutes later Carol and Craig were walking down the aisle, hand-in-hand, as Husband and Wife. It felt like we had four seasons in one day at times, but thankfully it was dry at the right times (although a bit blustery), with the weather only spoiling the photographic plans later in the evening.
The speeches were planned before the buffet, always preferable in my eyes, it makes for cleaner photos with the tables are still in pristine condition (point to note when you are planning your day). But what set of emotions everyone went through. I can’t remember a time when I have found myself editing a set of photos when one minute I was roaring with laughter with some of the facial expressions from the speech, and the next minute struggling not to well-up. To explain there was of course the laughter throughout the speeches, but what everyone was totally un-prepared for was still to come. Ryan, Carol’s son, was the best man for the day, with Andy (a close friend of Craig’s) also helping in the Best Man role. Ryan had put together some lovely words for a speech which he asked Andy to read on his behalf. By the time Andy had finished (and he did really well to complete the task) I don’t think there was a dry eye in the house. A touching moment for the family with some words that I don’t think Craig will forget for a long time. Carol, you have been warned, get you tissues ready when you view all of the images on your on-line album because it brings it all flooding back.
After Carol and Craig’s first dance the party started which was still going strong when I finally left at 10.30. Congratulations to Carol, Craig, Ryan and Lauren. Its clear that family life is going to suit you all, enjoy every minute of it.
